  • What is smart charging?
    Smart charging is data sharing between the electric vehicle, charging stations and charge point operators. The data sharing allows for optimisation of the charging experience including monitoring, managing, adjusting the use of the charging devices to optimise energy consumption, this helps to give you a good experience, balance the grid and give you savings via smart charging tariffs.
  • Can I buy a charger on it's own and install it?
    You can buy a charger, and no you can not install it yourself because it you would invalidate your warranty. The charger must be fitted by a qualified electrician and in some cases the electrician will need to be approved and trained by the charger manufacturer.   • Can I charge my EV in the rain?
    Yes you can charge in the rain.
  • Will my EV charger require maintenance?
    A home charger requires very little maintenance.
  • How long does it take to charge my car at home?
    A 7kW charger adds between 25 - 30 miles of range per hour depending on the car, so this would charge most cars within 4 - 8 hours depending how on much charge your car started with.
  • What other ways can I charge my car apart from a home charger?
    There are many public chargers available to use in places like business parks, hubs, supermarkets and more. You can use Zap Map to learn more and plan your journey in advance www.zap-map.com.
  • Are there special EV charging electricity tariffs?
    Yes companies like Octopus Energy and OVO Energy have discount tariffs for EV drivers, doing a comparison will help you to find the best smart tariffs for your EV.
  • Can I take my EV charger with me if I move house?
    You can get an electrician to remove and reinstall at your own cost.
  • Can I use solar to charge my car?
    As long as you have purchased a solar compatible charger and have a solar array you can charge your car with Solar, although the power will distributed between your home and your car so this is dependant on how much solar energy your array is providing.
  • Can I change where I want my charge point after completing my remote survey?
    Yes, but this may incur extra charges, if it changes the cable run of the difficulty of the installation or the materials required. Any additional charges will be need to authorised by yourself before the installation is completed.
  • Can I choose my installation date?
    We always try to accommodate an installation date within 2 weeks of your charger purchase that is suitable and convenient to you, if the date is not convenient we will offer you alternative dates.
  • Where should my EV charger be installed?
    Most people choose a driveway or garage, other considerations are the cable run, distance from the internet hub and trip hazards. The best option will be found via your home survey.
  • Why do I need to send images of gas and water bonding?
    Gas and water bonding must be in place before installing an EV charger to prevent electrical vaults and shocks, if this is not in place you can contact a local electrician to put this in place before you an EV charger installed. Find an electrician at Check a trade
  • Why do I need to send in images and complete a remote survey?
    This is so that Glo-EV can determine if your installation is standard** which is included in the installed pricing, if your installation is deemed to be non standard this would incur an additional cost and would require that a video or on site survey is carried out.
  • Can I be charged more, even if my survey came out as standard**?
    Yes, if the information provided is incorrect. If when completing the remote survey you are unsure of the answers to any questions please contact the team to help you through the process or make contact here.
  • When will my installation service be booked?
    Usually within a 14 day period, dependant on your schedule.
  • How long does installation take?
    The usual installation time is between 2 - 4 hours, although some installations can take longer.
  • Does my charger need to be fitted by an approved installer?
    All installation needs to be carried out by a qualified electrician and in some cases an approved installer.
  • Do I need to be at home for the installation?
    Somebody needs to be there to allow access to the qualified electrician.
  • Do you need access to my electricity meter?
    Yes.
  • Do EV chargers need surge protection?
    New regulations mean EV chargers do need surge protection but you can opt out, you will be given the choice before installation.
  • Why do I have to pay upfront?
    There are a few reasons why upfront payment is required, including handling paperwork (DNO and grant applications) and any necessary logistics and the administrative work that is involved in the installation process of an EV charger.

  • If I change my mind, can I get a refund?
    Yes, as long as no works have been carried out.
  • Do I need to validate my EV charger warranty?
    Yes, with Simpson and Partner and EVEC. The full process can be found in this section in a downloadable format.
  • EVEC Warranty Validation and Information
    We are covered by a 3-year parts and labour guarantee. You must register your product(s) online within 30 days of the delivery date to receive the warranty. Where applicable, please register all your products in one go if more than one item was purchased at the same time. To register your warranty, please email customer.services@evec.co.uk What is guaranteed? The product is guaranteed against defects in materials and/or workmanship. Any parts found to be defective will be repaired or replaced at our discretion. Parts are defined as mechanical/electrical parts only. In order to qualify for the 3-year parts and labour guarantee, the purchase must be registered within 30 days of the delivery date. Products registered outside the 30-day period will receive a 12-month part and labour guarantee only. The 30-day period is calculated from the delivery date, not the installation date. Products not registered will not benefit from this warranty. Warranties in whole or part are non-transferrable. Following points must be/have been followed in order to qualify for our warranty: A suitably qualified professional has installed the EV charger. Installation has been carried out in accordance with the instructions and current legislations. Proof of purchase can be produced when requested. Modification or repair of the EV charger by an unauthorised person has not been attempted – an authorised person is an evec appointed professional. If a fault is reported and an authorised evec agent attends to the EV charger, a service call fee will be charged to the customer IF there is no fault found with the EV charger or the fault transpires to be caused by misuse or incorrect installation. You will be notified of our current rates prior to the service call taking place. EVEC retains the right to invalidate the warranty in the event of physical or verbal abuse towards any member of staff. The provision of services under the warranty neither extends the term of the warranty nor sets in motion a new warranty period. The warranty remains effective from the date of delivery. What is not guaranteed? Damage by transport, misuse or improper installation and assembly. Use of parts not used or recommended by evec. Routine maintenance, wear-and-tear, installation faults. Consumables and cosmetic parts. Second hand or refurbished EV chargers. Faults due to accidental damage or misuse. Claims in respect of compensation of consequential loss, except where such liability is legally mandatory. Damage caused by the EV charger coming into contact with unsuitable materials.
